I just finished up this week's project.
A few years ago we had some sort of clock that broke. Not the clock itself, just what is was in. I can't even remember exactly what it was. At any rate, I saved the clock itself with the thought that someday I might make something for it.
Here's the design I came up with. I used maple and walnut and the clock is suspended from dowels. It was really a pleasure working on this after fussing so much over the Kindle case. As it turned out, this was incredibly simple to make.
Video on Friday.

Hi steve i just started woodworking last year in 6th grade and i love it. in march i am building my own shop, any ideas for storage. i love your work and the clock, didn't the WOOD WHISPERER make one almost exactly the same thing?

Fine Splines!
ReplyDeleteHi Steve
ReplyDeleteWhat's your trick to get your spline to the right thickness ?
My thicknesser doesn't allow to go under 1/4", and I don't have a thickness sander...
Ludovic
ReplyDeleteYou can always double-stick-tape your spline-material to another board, so that the total thickness exceeds 1/4".
After that, you can set your thicknesser to the width of the secondary board + the thickness you want your spline to be.
Also: use a handheld powersander! ;-)
