Banana stand
There is actually a very simple woodworking project embedded into about 30 seconds of this video. It's a banana hanger or stand. I saw a boring plastic one at the grocery store a while back and put it on my list of things to make.
Its purpose it to delay bananas from bruising by keeping them off the counter. At least I think that's the purpose.
Last week Eric Penewell from Bamboo Hardwoods sent me a box containing a number or different bamboo boards. I have never used bamboo before, and knew it mainly to be a flooring option. I was delighted to discover that it is very nice to work with for other projects too. I'll show you more of it in a Mere Minutes this weekend. I had no idea there were so many types of bamboo.

I have been a huge fan of silent comedies since I was a kid. (So much so, that my son's middle name is Keaton.) For over a year Wyatt and I have been wanting to make a silent movie, but I hadn't been able to think of a way to incorporate it into woodworking.
Then it came together. Bananas, tropical bamboo, slipping on banana peels, banana cream pie. Sometimes things fall into place perfectly.

Steve....letting us in to see the family is the best part!!! Great video.
ReplyDeleteWow, who needs Hollywood! Excellent video Wyatt. I suppose that Steve guy was okay too.
ReplyDeleteRemember, there's always money in the banana stand.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Steve, and Wyatt, you never fail to entertain. Great job.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant. What else can I say?
ReplyDeleteNow that was fun! Great job you guys, now I'm hungry for some Duck Soup!
ReplyDeleteWonderful video Steve. Congratulations to you and your son for a great job!

Great, great, great. Makes me want to break out the old silent films. Very well done.
ReplyDeleteNice work Steve (and Wyatt), I think you missed your true calling!... Might have to give the banana hook a go down here - my daughters eat loads of bananas (the technical term for a group of bananas) and usually one always ends up as a squishy one in the bottom of the fruit bowl!
ReplyDeleteKeep em coming :)
Oh MaGoo, you've done it again. That was great!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the aching face. I smiled thru the entire thing and now my jaw aches.
One word..."_________" Did you get that? It's a silent comment. Excellent job Stave and Wyatt!
ReplyDeleteExcellent !
ReplyDeleteMy first comment to say thanks for your awsome website ! I very appreciate your videos and projects.

ReplyDeletethe only thing I can say again it is that you need to put a SAFTEY GUIDE PIN ON THAT ROUTER TABLE evean retro fitting one on your premade table is easy you drill a 1/4'' hole part way through the table top insert a short peice of rod into it and there you go it makes using a router table freehand sooooooooooo much safer please think abou adding one soon
thanks again for sharing your asome talent with us
If you decide to take acting as a career you can build you'r own sets .. Think about the possibilities.............dr.rock
ReplyDeleteI don't really have anything original to say here. The film was great. You and Wyatt really have a knack for film making. I look forward each week to your Friday videos and while all are good, this one takes the cake...or pie!
ReplyDeleteHa, that was bloody amazing! You really got the feeling of silent movies, and the facial expressions were great! Bravo
ReplyDeleteSteve, I love Bamboo! I'll have to share a photo of the bed floor of my shop truck. I used bamboo flooring - It looks really neat. I love the grain.
ReplyDeleteCool stuff!
Ha! Fantastic. Hope the correlation between "steveinmarin" and "stevemartin" was on purpose. Big funny always comes from big brains. Kudos, you two.
ReplyDeleteSteve and Wyatt! Wonderful work!It was absolutely Fantastic!!! Loved it!
ReplyDeleteThe Great Stoneface would be proud...As he is credited as saying 'Think slow and act fast'.
ReplyDeleteAwsome video. Cool Banana tree. The part that was the best for me was your obvious relationship with your son. One just does not see that much in this day and age. Love all your videos, epecially the ones with your family involved.
