Valentine's Day is fast approaching. I thought it would be fun to make a candy box, one the recipient could keep and not have to throw away after the candy is gone.It was an interesting challenge. Thankfully, a couple people on Facebook suggested I try bent lamination to create the curves. It seemed a bit daunting at first, because I always thought it would be very difficult. In fact, it was very easy and it opens up a whole bunch of possibilities for future projects.
The only trick it to plane your wood down as thin as possible to allow it to bend. Then glue up several pieces and let them dry around a form. Plus, scrounge up every clamp you can find.*****

I love your videos and i love how you don't over complicate projects. I like how you don't show us that we need to buy special tools to get cool projects. For example bricks as a type of clamp is genius lol.
ReplyDeleteSweet! You were thinking outside the box on this one Steve, or inside the box, er...
ReplyDeleteI would still would like to see the video of yo making that candy. Mmmmmmm
nice video Steve im going to make one of these but i think i want a arrow thur it ,the feather on the arrow could be laminateded like that and look good on it and send it to my x wife LOL
ReplyDeleteGREAT VIDEO THANKS
My son had a neat idea to make an arrow and use it to attach the lid. Basically putting a dowel in the middle of the lid and have the arrow act like a cotter pin.
ReplyDeletegreat idea thanks
DeleteBill: I don't make candy. But I could fill the box with enchiladas!
ReplyDeleteYou didn't show the way you trimmed the base flush with the side, but you said you were going to sand. Remember that flush-trim router bits are your friends. ;)
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous project, Steve! My sister makes her own truffles... she might just need a box to put them in!
